Our Story:
From our humble beginnings 80 years ago to where we are now, the story of Joyces Electrical is intrinsically linked with Wexford and its people.
Joyces was established in 1944 by Murt Joyce Snr as a simple hardware store on North Main Street, Wexford Town. During WWII and due to supply shortages, Murt Snr would often cycle from Wexford to Dublin to source appliances and hardware, with demand far outweighing supply. Nonetheless, Murt Snr persevered, driven by his keen business sense and relentless work ethic.
The electrification of rural Ireland offered Murt Snr new opportunities to supply the people of Wexford with modern conveniences, leading to Joyces becoming a household name.
Joyces continued to develop over the next 20 years, expanding considerably. First with a move to a larger premises on South Main Street followed by an appliance store on Custom House Quay and a dedicated hardware store on Anne Street in the 90s until finally opening our flagship store, warehouse and delivery depot in Clonard Retail Park.

Murt Snr. Would not retire until his late 70’s and from there his sons Derek and Murt Jnr would continue to build upon their fathers hard-earned business reputation, expanding it into the Joyces Expert Electrical of today. Derek and Murt are both still heavily involved in the family business with Murt overseeing the Large appliances department and Derek as CEO. Now, the third generation of Joyces are helping drive the continued success of Joyces Expert Electrical with Derek's sons Ciaran and Cillian continuing to drive our success.
Cillian Joyce is our Sales Manager and ensures your shopping experience with us runs smoothly and that our customers are receiving the best possible advice from our experts.
Ciaran Joyce is our Head of eCommerce, ensuring that all our products are available online 24/7 for you to browse and shop at your convenience as well as ensuring that all our online subscribers are kept up to date with our latest offers.
Joyces Expert currently supports 40 local jobs, with many in our team having worked with us for years and some of our longest serving team with us for over 20 years! Testament to our ethos of a Joyces Family.
Sustainability:
With more than 80 years in business, we now focus on the future where we continue to serve the community as well as the planet with our increased focus on sustainability. Our flagship store is now powered by solar panels accounting for 40% of our energy together with our continued use of recycled packaging as well as taking away old packaging & machines for recycling.
We strive to offer a range of energy-efficient appliances and eco-friendly technologies that help reduce your carbon footprint. Our large appliances are designed to consume less energy and water, without compromising on performance. In all of our departments, you'll find products that meet the highest energy efficiency standards, ensuring that your entertainment systems are both cutting-edge and environmentally friendly.
We’ve partnered with DPD for Nationwide deliveries who have committed to reduce their total emissions by 90% by 2030 (vs 2020) due to their huge investment in operating an increasingly electric fleet of vehicles.
Furthermore, we work with WEEE Ireland Recycling and are more than happy to recycle your old appliance. We are also a drop off point, meaning you can drop off any old domestic appliances and we’ll recycle them for you. WEE consumers recycled a record-breaking 41,730 tonnes of electronic and electrical waste in 2023 – the equivalent of almost 200 forty-foot containers more than the previous year, new figures reveal.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Ireland’s annual report shows that approximately 18.1 million appliances were collected for recycling last year – exceeding all European norms.
